AWITA empower and support women in Maiduguri – Hon. Yagana Gumsu

Honorable Yagana Abba Gumsu, Cordinator of association of women in trade and agriculture Borno state chapter, has pointed out an overview of the association.

According to Mrs Yagana Abba Gumsu, our aim and objective of this Association of Women In Trade and Agriculture (AWITA) an NGO organization, is to empower women only, we have gain that in little ways, our slogan “women empowering women”.

Our achievement in Borno state chapter, we have empowered a lot of women to be self reliance so they can be on their own, we have given them a lot of token to support them.

We appreciated the effort of our able, dynamic and intellectual leader in the person of Mrs Ruth Agbo whom through her tireless efforts contributed a lot to the women of Borno, she added.

AWITA in Borno state has gain a lot of support from the Governor Prof Babagana Umaru Zulum, and her Excellency Mrs Falmata Umaru Zulum and our great patron Hajiya Fatima Lawan Zaufanjinba.

Our aims is to increase the daily trading and agricultural activities in Borno state, according to honorable Yagana Gumsu, history has it that agricultural activities in Borno state is one that is bigger than other northeast states, Borno state is well known in farming beans, maize, rice and millet but due to the insurgency we haven’t realized any geographical location for farming, so our women are suffering for that reasons we try our best to empower them in trade.

    Mrs Maryam Mustapha who probably happens to be the AWITA program manager Added that “AWITA is an association which empower and encourage trading and agricultural activities in Borno state among women, we were able to create awareness, monitoring and empowering women. In the funding aspect, we really appreciate the commissioner wife, Hajiya Fatima Lawan Zaufanjinba.

    Mrs Zara Idris added “We never expected what we saw during our one year anniversary last month october, the support given to us by the Governor Prof. Babagana Umaru Zulum and Hajiya Fatima Lawan Zaufanjinba we really appreciate their support, the Governor Prof Babagana Umaru Zulum is a man that supports anything that has to do with poverty alleviation, she added.
