The Edo state government on Thursday ordered the closure of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Main Organising Committee (MOC) offices of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival holding in Benin City.
The government made the disclosure through its Deputy Governor Phillip Shuaibu.
The state government had earlier on Wednesday’s night hints that it might be forced to discontinue the almost one-week old National Sports Festival due to paucity of funds.
The state government however alleged the Federal government through the Ministry of Youth & Sports Development that it was yet to release its counter funding for the games.
Speaking with journalists at the media centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Philip Shuaibu, said the decision to shut down the Local Organising Commitee and Main Organising Commitee offices was because the state can no longer foot the bill of the NSF without the financial support of the Federal government.
