Bhurungamari police have arrested a teacher named Abu Saeed and sent him to Kurigram jail on charges of physically abusing a student of Qaumi Madrasa in Bhurungamari, Kurigram. He was arrested from behind the Bhurungamari Government Pilot High School in a police raid on Thursday (April 22nd) morning.
It is learned that a child named Lam Mia (7) was studying at Kismat Kulchum Qawmi Madrasa in Dhebhebi Bazar of Pathardubi Union of the upazila. He is the son of Motaleb Hossain, a businessman in the area. On March 26, Abu Mia, a teacher at the institution, beat Lam Mia severely for not bringing homework.
Several days after the incident, a video of the incident went viral on social media and went viral.
After the news was published in various media, the madrasa authorities hastily expelled the accused teacher through an arbitration meeting on April 19. Bhurungamari police filed a case under the Child Abuse Act.
Bhurungamari Police Station OC (Investigation) Jahedul Islam confirmed the matter and said that the accused teacher Abu Saeed was arrested on Thursday morning and sent to Kurigram Jail.
