Hit-and-run driver kills one in Edo

One Austin Umweni, the proprietor of Austin Pharmacy has been confirmed dead after a hit-and-run driver rammed into him during an early morning jogging in Benin City, Edo State.

Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Kontongs Bello, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said Umweni died at the spot after he was hit along Airport Road by a Mercedes Benz driver.

According to him, the family of the deceased launched a report at the Police station asking the authorities to fish out his killer.

He further revealed that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue in the state capital.

“It’s an unfortunate incident and the suspect who committed the crime fled the scene.

“We have started a full investigation into the matter and the culprit will be fished out soon while the remains of the deceased had been deposited at a morgue in the State capital,” he said.
