End SARS: Why I ordered policemen to tear gas protesters – Police Commissioner

On Wednesday, Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, stated he ordered his troops to tear gas #EndSARSMemorial demonstrators at the Lekki Toll Gate.

According to Odumosu, the police used tear gas on the demonstrators to prevent a collapse in law and order.

The police commissioner stated that he had ordered his men to tear gas the protesters because they had broken the promise that the procession would begin at 8 a.m. and end at 10 a.m.

Any demonstration that lasts longer than the agreed-upon time will be considered a nuisance and will not be tolerated, according to Odumosu.

“The protest was between 8 and 10 a.m., anything after 10 a.m. is a nuisance,” the Commissioner remarked.

“I talked to them, and they indicated the demonstration will be over by 10 p.m.,” I added. Other people are now doing it for the sole purpose of generating annoyance. Are they protestors or miscreants with machetes and hammers?

“The demonstrators are free; they have completed their mission and have left. The only other individuals left are miscreants and hoodlums who wish to take advantage of the situation by attacking innocent people and robbing them. That will not be tolerated.”
