EndSARS: Lekki massacre fake, CNN, Amnesty International lied – Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, said on Wednesday that the EndSARS massacre at the Lekki tollgate last year was a hoax.

The CNN report that Nigerian military slaughtered demonstrators at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos State last year was deemed “false news” by Mohammed.

To commemorate the one-year anniversary of the protest, he issued a statement titled “Phantom Massacre at Lekki Tollgate.”

“Today marks the one-year anniversary of the phantom slaughter at Lagos’ Lekki Toll Gate, which was the finale of an otherwise peaceful demonstration that was later hijacked by hoodlums,” Mohammed writes. At previous news appearances, I had referred to the alleged massacre at the toll gate as the world’s first massacre without blood or bodies.

“One year later, despite numerous opportunities for families of those purportedly killed and those alleging a massacre to submit evidence, none has been presented: There were no bodies, no families, no solid evidence, nothing. Where are the relatives of those allegedly killed at the toll gate? Have they appeared before the Judicial Panel of Inquiry? If not why..

“Unfortunately, proponents of a massacre at the Lekki Toll Gate, such as Amnesty International and CNN, have persisted to cling to their unfounded position.” Remember, guys, that after tossing about various statistics, Amnesty International landed on a figure of roughly 12 persons dead.

“On CNN’s part, the number of individuals killed decreased from 38 to two following a supposedly global exclusive, despite the fact that the network had no reporter on the ground at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20th, 2020.”

“On Monday, the Lagos State Government’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry, which was established in the aftermath of the EndSARS protest, completed its work.

CNN was summoned during the hearing, but it failed to show up, squandering a wonderful opportunity to verify its allegation of a slaughter at the toll gate.”

Amnesty International was also accused by the ministry of spreading false information about the EndSARS slaughter at Lekki Tollgate.

“Also, Amnesty International had a perfect opportunity to persuade the world, but instead chose to issue worthless news releases,” Mohammed continued.

“CNN has continued with its bogus story that military shot at protestors in its latest attempt to clutch at straws and save what little credibility it has left on this issue.”
