The Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth wing has begun working with key ethnic, religious, and social players throughout Nigeria’s geopolitical zones with the hopes of electing a Nigerian President of Igbo descent in 2023.

In a statement issued by the Ohanaeze youth wing’s national leadership, Assistant National Publicity Secretary, Udekigbo Chibuzor, the group said it has formed a presidential lobby committee/team to go on a familiarization tour to other ethnic nationalities in the country, with the goal of persuading and canvassing support for the Igbo nation’s desire to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.

Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu and Chris Obiemenyebo were named chairman and secretary of the Ohanaeze lobby committee/team, respectively.

The Igbo organization further revealed that the presidential lobby team/committee is tasked with identifying credible, reliable, qualified, and highly sellable southeast candidates from across party lines who may be backed for the presidential election in 2023, among other things.

The Ohanaeze wing also stated that the team will initiate high-level engagements with relevant stakeholders across party, religious, and ethnic lines in order to persuade them of the importance of supporting an Igbo presidency of Nigeria in 2023; mobilize support across different political lines in order to ensure that an Igbo is elected President of Nigeria in 2023; and provide quarterly reports to the national executive committee of the youth wing on progress, challenges, and opportunities.

“Presidential lobby team/committee will carry out responsibilities as may be allocated to her by the national executive committee in line with the Igbo presidency mandate,” according to the statement.
