EPL: Martial set to join Newcastle

When the January transfer market opens, Newcastle intends to make Anthony Martial, a Manchester United striker, their first big-name acquisition.

The Magpies are rumored to be willing to pay a £6 million loan fee to lure the France forward to St James’ Park.

Martial is aware that he needs to leave Old Trafford in order to gain playing time, and Juventus had expressed interest in signing him for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle, on the other hand, is hoping to blast Juve out of the water by paying almost £1 million per month for him for the final five months of the season.

The Tyneside club now has cash to spend following their acquisition, but they are conscious that luring any player to a permanent deal will be difficult given their Premier League status is in jeopardy.

When the winter window opens, loan transactions are their only realistic option for bringing in the top-level talent they desire.

Martial cost an initial £36m when United signed him from Monaco six years ago, but that figure has risen to over £45m after he triggered appearance and goal-related clauses.
