SDP suspends National Chairman, Secretary

The national executive council of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has suspended its national leader, Olu Ogunloye, for alleged misbehavior.

Shehu Gabam, the SDP’s National Secretary, was also suspended.

They were suspended for allegedly disobeying parts of the SDP constitution, including Articles 12.5 (iv) and 12.2.2 (viii), as well as Article 9.4.

In a statement, the party said that Adul Isaq, the SDP’s vice chairman, will take over as interim chairman and Simon Adesina will take over as national secretary, pending the outcome of the party’s convention.

“The NEC noted the willful disrespect for the rules of the SDP constitution, particularly Article 12.5 (iv), 12.2.2 (viii), and Article 9.4 to suspend some executive officers from our party,” the statement said.

“The NEC took into account the numerous abuses.”

“The NEC considered the various abuses of the constitution by the following under-listed officers and decided by majority to suspend Shehu Gabam and Dr Olu Ogunloye.

“The NEC noted the urgency to put in place all that is required for a befitting party convention.”

The Party further moved the date of its national convention from April 27 to 29, 2022.
