Chelsea must add two players to their squad during the January transfer window, according to Arsenal legend Paul Merson.
Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma, both of Brighton, he believes, would help Chelsea fight for the Premier League and Champions League championships.
Prior to Sunday’s match against fellow championship contenders Liverpool, Thomas Tuchel’s side has fallen 11 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Merson believes the Blues are’struggling’ and’stuck in treacle,’ and that they require reinforcements now.
“Chelsea were soaring, but they’re struggling now,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“I went the other night [against Brighton], and it was ping, ping, ping watching Man City play.” It’s difficult to watch Chelsea.
“They were thrashed the other night.
They drew but Brighton were outstanding.
“‘If I was Chelsea I would go and get Cucurella, I would definitely go and get him and I would get Bissouma.”
He said the fact these players play for Brighton should not be a problem, adding that they were the best performers when Chelsea played Brighton last week.
“Chelsea is stuck in treacle at the moment,” he added.
