In this post, I will highlight five things you can do with your IELTS. It is more valuable than you know.

1. GET A JOB ABROAD – If you are applying for jobs in the UK or Australia, having a good IELTS score can be an added advantage. It makes employers confident that you can communicate in English and can give you an edge if competition is stiff. For persons in healthcare – especially doctors and nurses – IELTS is a compulsory first step to securing practising license in the UK (OET is another easier but more expensive alternative).

2. GET A MASTERS ADMISSION ABROAD – While IELTS is not compulsory for most Masters in the UK and Australia, or almost always guarantees an unconditional offer if your application is backed by a compelling statement of purpose. IELTS Academic is most suitable for this.

3. GET AN AUSTRALIAN PERMANENT VISA
– For persons intending to get permanent residency in Australia either through the Skilled Independent Visa or regional nomination programs, IELTS helps to boost your chances.

  1. GET CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCY

For persons applying for Canadian skilled worker pathways such as Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program, IELTS General Training is required and a good score will help improve your chances at landing your PR. You need a minimum score of 6.0 in all the sections.

– While this is not cast in stone, having good IELTS scores can help you stand out and possibly land some scholarships – especially those being awarded by the institution. Some of these scholarships are applied for during the admission process and having a compelling essay with a good IELTS score may get you a foot in the door.
