Purported Governor El-Rufai impeachment plot is false – Kaduna Speaker

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Speaker Kaduna State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Yusuf Zailan has declared as false, the report of purported impeachment moves against Gov. Nasir El-Rufai over corruption allegations, currently circulating in social platforms.

The Speaker made the refutation Sunday in a statements signed by his spokesman Hon. Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani and made available to journalists.
The refutation is coming against the earlier reports on alleged underground plots to impeach the Governor of Kaduna State Mall. Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, over corruption allegations.

“Attention of the Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly has been drawn to report of purported impeachment moves against Gov. Nasir El-Rufai over corruption allegations circulating on social platforms”, it stated.

The statement described the impeachment reports as the handiwork of opposition and enemies of progress of the relationship between the legislative arm of government and the executive under the able leadership of Mal. Nasir el-Rufai.

It further stressed that the reports was apparently created to cause crises between the legislative and the executive and in order to deny the good people of Kaduna State the dividends of democracy they are benefitting courtesy of the good working relationship between the executive and the legislative.

“The report which also said the relationship between the Governor and the Speaker has been frosty for quite some time now is nothing but the figment of imagination of the writer and perhaps their sponsors.

“It is also untrue that the state lawmakers are currently investigating the expenditures of all the Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals of the state government”, it stated.

The speaker therefore stated categorically that the entire report is maliciously concocted to misinform the general public and should be disregarded in its entirety.

“Meanwhile, the origin of the purported report will be thoroughly investigated with the view to bringing the perpetrators and their sponsors to book to serve as deterrent to others.

“Let it however be noted that the relationship between the legislature and Executive is cordial and it is expected not only to remain so but be improved upon”, he added.

Earlier, an online media (name withheld) had reported that there were impeachment moved again Governor of Kaduna State Mall. Nasir El-Rufai, over corruption allegations.

The online reported that in separate chats with their reporter, members of Kaduna State House of Assembly disclosed that the moves to impeached El-Rufai have now reached an advanced stage.

It also reported that “Recalled that the relationship between Governor elrufai and the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Yusuf Zailani, has been frosty for quite some time now, Quest Times has learnt.

“State lawmakers are currently investigating the expenditures of all the ministries, agencies and parastatals of the state government inline with the plan.

“A legislator, on condition of anonymity, had revealed that the lawmakers have already established 11 prima facie grounds of corruption against the Governor.

“We are currently undertaking oversight function on all ministries, agencies and parastatals. The reason for this oversight function is to get cast-iron, fool-proof alibi to impeach the governor.

“We have already uncovered mind-blowing corruption. One of such discoveries is the award of contracts without due process and the discovery of how Governor El-Rufai awarded contracts to his cronies and family members without due process or advertisements.

“We have also uncovered attempts by Governor El-Rufai to collect an N80B loan from one of the commercial banks, without the knowledge of the State Assembly.

“The lawmakers, upon finding out, have already written to the bank against granting such a loan,” a lawmaker who also pleaded confidentiality has also revealed”, the online reported.

“It was also gathered that several attempts by the El-Rufai administration to impeach the speaker, who has since fallen out with the Governor, have been unsuccessful, as majority of the lawmakers vowed to stand with the speaker.

“The lawmakers have even taken oaths with the Bible and the Qur’an not to ever visit the Government House for any reason and to also stand with the speaker,” another source adds”.

The online further reported that “We also gathered that Deputy Speaker, Dr. Isaac Auta, recently dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and has pitched tent with Peter Obi’s Labour Party, thereby swelling the ranks of the opposition in the House to 15.

“Speaker Zailani fell out with the governor for many reasons, prominent among them was the way and manner APC Governorship candidate for the 2023 voted, as Sen. Uba Sani, was allegedly forced on party members.

“There was a time the security personnel attached to the speaker were all removed. The speaker had to run to Abuja before his operatives were restored.

“I can confirm to you that moves to impeach the Governor are real, the lawmakers are working seriously on this. They want to present water-tight evidence. They are not happy with the way and manner the governor has been running Kaduna State,” quoting a source.

“Kaduna residents have long accused the State House of Assembly of being a shameless “rubber stamp” since the emergence of El-Rufai as Governor of the State in 2015.

“We can exclusively and authoritatively reports that attempts to speak to the governor or any of his aides for a reaction to this story proved futile, as calls and text messages dispatched where neither responded to nor returned”, it reported.
