GOC 7 DIVISION visits Commissioner of Police Borno State

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Waidi Shaibu and his Police Counterpart, the Commissioner of Police Borno State CP Abdu Umar has on Tuesday, 25 October, 2022 carved a niche to tackle all possible security challenges that may affect the safe conduct of the forth coming general elections in the state.

The collaboration and synergy was cemented during the GOCs courtesy and operational visit to the Commissioner of Police in his office at the State Police Command in Maiduguri.

In his remarks, General Waidi stated that the visit is to enable both agencies work out a joint formidable security master plan that will create a level playing field before, during and after the elections considering the peculiar nature of the region especially as the fight against insurgency is ongoing. He added that the military is required to work closely and in support of the Police as the lead agency.

The GOC therefore called for more collaboration and strengthening of the joint operations between the military and the police as well as looking on how to incorporate the services of the Hybrid Forces towards achieving a hitch free exercise when the time comes. In his words, We need a common understanding of our security strategy and how to collectively operate as a team during the entire period of the exercise he stated.

During his response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abdu Umar welcome the GOC and his entourage to his office adding that he feels highly honoured having the GOC and his Garrison Commander in his office; a laudable act which exemplifies the readiness of the military in steering the security affairs of Borno state in the right direction, he stated.

While commending the military for the tremendous assistance in ensuring the restoration of peace and normalcy in the region, CP Umar revealed that “all feats achieved in clearing notable black spots within Maiduguri Metropolitan Council have been with the support and collaboration of the military.

Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police said the idea of working out a joint and formidable security master plan geared towards having a successful and hitch free elections in 2023 will no doubt gives the joint security agencies an edge over enemies of the state. He therefore, gave his assurances to strengthen the already existing ties between the military and the police as well as other security agencies and critical stakeholders in the peace building process of the state.

Present during the visit were the Commander 7 Division Garrison, Brig Gen J Ibrahim, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Training and Operations, Col EE Nlemadim, Commander 7 Military Intelligence Brigade, Col AA Ude, Commander 7 Provost Group, Lt Col MA Adebayo and members of police management team.
